There are few things I like more than coming home after a long day at work and cuddling into the couch with my best blanket.
It’s so relaxing, peaceful, and enjoyable when I’m snuggled up on the couch or in my bed underneath a cozy blanket.
Even at night right before I go to bed I prefer using something else rather than my heavy comforter so I always grab one of my favorite blankets from downstairs and use it to cover my feet while I read or just relax before going to sleep.
I have found that some of the different blankets made from a heavy quilt material or even cheaply made wool ones aren’t as good and it can actually make me feel stuffy and not as comfortable as I could be.
I was recently looking online to find a new blanket to add to my collection and I wanted to create this post sort of is like a jumping-off point for anyone in the market for a new one as well as to share my recommendations when it comes to what I believe are some of the best blankets to use.
Of course you’re going to want to consider the material that any blanket that you’re interested in is made from as well as how warm it could be but there are some other factors that should be considered as well.
Before diving into my recommendations I want to cover a few tips when it comes to buying a blanket for your home.
Now that I’ve gone over some helpful tips on how to make a more informed decision when it comes to buying a new blanket let’s take a look at some of my recommendations when it comes to the best blanket that I recommend using in your home.

Blanket Buying Guide: Tips and Suggestions
How to Choose a Blanket
I find blankets to be a super versatile item and I love having a few different options to choose from that I can use for snuggling up and getting cozy in my house or in my bed.
I recently wrote an article about the best blankets and I recommend taking a look at that if you’re looking for a new blanket to use in your home.
Blankets can be used all year round whether you just need to keep your toes warm while you’re laying on the couch in the spring or if you need to get nice and cozy in your bed on a cold winter night.
These days there are quite a few options to choose from when it comes to the different types of blankets available and today I want t
Of all the different fabrics that blankets are made from there are a few that are much more popular than others and each offers their own benefits and drawbacks depending on what you’re looking for.
Cotton is a very popular fabric and it’s made from the fibers of a cotton plant.
It doesn’t offer as much warmth as other fabrics such as wool or fleece but it’s very lightweight, comfortable, and extremely versatile.
Cotton blankets are easy to wash and can typically be tossed into the dryer on a low setting without having to worry about any shrinking or damage from the heat.
Wool blankets are made from the fibers that come from the fleece of many different animals such as sheep, lines, goats, alpacas, and llamas.
Sheep’s wool is one of the most common types and Merino wool is also quite popular for a soft, fine, and warm the material is.
Wool blankets are a good idea if you’re looking for something to use to stay warm and cozy and you also want something lightweight that isn’t bulky when folded up.
Cashmere is a material that’s made by the cashmere goat, an animal that’s quite popular throughout India, Pakistan, Tibet, and Mongolia.
Blankets made from this material tend to be quite soft, warm, and very comfortable.
Keep in mind that cashmere is a high-maintenance fabric and is going to require more effort to keep clean than cotton or wool.
Natural fleece is a fabric that’s usually made from wool but that has been brushed so that it has a different texture that offers more warmth and softness.
Lesser quality fleece blankets tend to be made from cotton and there are better quality ones made from wool as well as silk.
Fleece is a good idea to use in the winter and it can really help add an extra layer of warmth to your bed comforter or if you’re just looking to cozy up on the couch and stay warm.
Silk blankets tend to be made from a higher quality and are typically more expensive which makes them a good choice if you’re looking for a luxury blanket.
The material is quite strong, warm, and very soft and silk also has some antimicrobial and antifungal properties.
When it comes to staying warm in the winter anywhere in your home you’re definitely going to want to cuddle up with a down blanket or a down throw.
Many people use a down duvet on their beds during the colder months for extra warmth and having a down blanket is just a lighter version of the duvet that you can easily put away when you’re not using it.
For even warmer you can add a flannel cover so you’re able to stay extra cozy and comfortable.
The Sizes of Blankets
Blankets are available in a wide range of different shapes and sizes and if there is anyone specific blanket that you’re interested in I recommend taking a look at the specifications to see if it’s a size that will be suitable for your needs.
However, there are some common blanket sizes to make choosing the right size a little bit easier.
Many throw blankets are designed to be used on a couch or on top of the covers of a bed and the most common size is 50-inches by 70-inches.
Twin blankets are designed to fit onto a twin size bed and the most common size for this type is 66-inches by 90-inches.
Queen blankets are designed to fit onto a queen-size bed and the most common size for this type is 90-inches by 90-inches.
King blankets are designed to fit onto a king-size bed and the most common size for this type is 111-inches by 90-inches.
Keep in mind that the sizes will vary depending on the brand or type of blanket that you’re looking at and make sure to double-check the specification to get a better idea of the sizing.
Choosing the Right Blanket
When it comes time to choose in the right place and it’s important to go with one that is going to do the job of whatever it is you want the blanket for.
Ultimately, it depends on whether or not you need a blanket to keep you warm during the day or at night or if you just want something lightweight that you can snuggle up with and get cozy.
For warmth, I would recommend picking up a thicker blanket such as those made from wool, cotton fleece, or cashmere.
These are going to be the warmest blankets that you can choose from and it’s the material that’s able to keep warm air trapped which results in you being warmer when you’re underneath it.
You should also consider how any of the fabrics that you’re looking at are able to hold moisture as this has an impact on how warm they are and how warm you’ll be able to remain.
Natural fibers such as cotton, wool, and silk, are all moisture absorbent fabrics and this means they’re more comfortable and will wick away moisture from your skin so that what’s left behind is a layer of warm air that’s dry as well.
Synthetic fibers like acrylic, nylon, and polyester aren’t as thick or as absorbent so they’re not going to be as warm and are better suited for the summer months when you maybe just need a light covering.
